Released this tumble, the “Christmas Yarn” collector’s edition is really a 20th anniversary version of the classic. First, let me say I can’t hold it’s been out for 20 years. I understanding 12, at the most 15. Wow.

Briefly, for readers who may not be intimately acquainted with the film, I strongly succor you to assume “A Christmas Myth” and invent it a regular fraction of your holiday routine. It will grow on you with each viewing and you’ll soon acquire its one-liners making their contrivance into your everyday vernacular. Which version should you bag? That’s why you’re reading this review.

The fresh DVD release of “A Christmas Tale” had no extra features. Nothing. No commentaries, no interviews, no documentaries. Objective the movie. This was greatly disappointing, since I’m a stout fan and was alive to in the making of the film, what the actors are doing now, etc. So naturally I was looking forward to this special edition.

Well, I can’t say I’m too ecstatic with the reissue.

1. The documentary is very uninformative. The one distinct aspect of it is the simple fun of seeing the actors all grown up. Ralphie is 30 now, but looks about the same. Flick has changed more in his appearance and his career choices. (Career choices? You’ll have to notice that up yourself. It’s not on the DVD and I’m not about to waste Christmas for you.) There unprejudiced isn’t that worthy to bag about the movie from the special features. If you would like to know what Ralphie wanted for Christmas when he was 10, or what the worst Christmas show Schwartz ever got was, then you’ll likely be absorbed. I wasn’t. What could’ve been an in-depth notice at the making of this low-budget masterpiece, intermingled with musings from the actors turned into a Nickelodeon-style “what’s your current color” type of Q&A session. What was particularly annoying was the graphics and sound effects that the editors added (e.g., if Ralphie says “my mom effect her foot down,” there’s a expansive crashing sound with a monolithic stone foot superimposed over him. Unprejudiced dumb) . Bottom line, it’s salubrious for the serious fan who wants a behold at the grown up kids, but beyond that it’s useless.

2. The other “special features” are even more lame. There’s a trivia challenge (yawn), a decoder game where you match the dialogue from the scene, a history of the daisy rider BB gun, and the unique radio readings from Jean Shepherd (the narrator) . You might do these once, but it’s nothing worth buying the DVD for.

Buy,Download, Or Stream A Christmas Story! Click Here

3. The one brilliant station is the commentary, and if there’s a reason to engage the special edition, it’s this. The director (Bob Clark) and Ralphie (Peter Billingsly) do provide some more insight into the making of the film, and if you’re the type that enjoys commentaries, you’ll bag it’s worth it.

4. Lastly, I don’t believe the film was restored in any map. We’re talking 20 years here. The film was beautiful marked up and I was disappointed they didn’t go to any pain to fix it in the 20th anniversary edition. For those of you that don’t know (and don’t pain, I’ll spare you the 1000 word treatise on the mechanics of film that another reviewer felt the need to fraction), artists go into the fresh film and frame by frame they recall specks of dust and dirt, and in some cases they even add paint to touch up sure artifacts. This apparently didn’t occur in “A Christmas Epic” and it badly needed it. This would’ve gone a long procedure to wait on the value of this DVD region.

So what’s the bottom line? If you intensely care for this movie and have for years, then capture the DVD. It will be worth it. But if you’re on the fence, maybe you’ve already got the first scream of the DVD, maybe you throw it in during the holidays, then assign your money. And if you’re unbiased getting into the movie and don’t yet occupy a copy, well, you should probably net the reissue since we’re only talking about a few dollars in impress dissimilarity.

This review applies mostly to readers who already have the first release and are considering getting the modern version. If the features I mentioned appeal to you, then go for it. Otherwise, you might be better off objective sticking with the novel release and using your 20 bucks to gather the “Christmas Vacation” reissue, which actually is worth it.

This is a must-see, completely charming, wonderfully acted (and I usually don’t like child actors), heart-warming without being too mushy, Holiday Season account.

But they made the DVD in Pan&Scan (except the opening credits, which are in widescreen) . SHAME ON THE DVD PRODUCER!

The whole view of DVDs was that there’s titanic site for both widescreen and pan&scan versions. P&S (now called “Corpulent Hide Format” — to fabricate you judge it’s a helpful thing) makes movies explore like made-for-tv shows, with no vistas and too many closeups.

How about an un-modified version of this terrific movie?

Space Spot teams up His Airness, Michael Jordan, with His Hareness, Bugs Bunny, for a fun, and silly, family film.

Michael Jordan has retired from basketball, and currently playing baseball, when Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes pals ask for his benefit in playing a b-ball game against diminuative aliens from Moron Mountain. These aliens have stolen the talent of 5 NBA players, including Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing, and are now larger than life. Since this is Looney Tunes Land, this game is NOT your average basketball game. If it was, it wouldn’t be any fun.

Though not an actor of any kind in anyone’s book, Michael Jordan does a very pleasurable job of interacting with his cartoon co-stars. Most of the jokes are well done and the basketball game itself is a lot of fun. In addition, it is quite comical to explore the 5 NBA players that had their “games” stolen trying to cope with their newfound ordinaryness.

This movie is not groundbreaking by any means and most all of the recent Looney Tunes cartoons are better. But this movie never tries to be more than it is: a marvelous time. And at that, it succeeds very well.

The current “Position Predicament” 2-Disc DVD is a fun addition to any Looney Tunes or family DVD collection.

Disc One features the film, which can be enjoyed with commentary from the director, as well as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Most DVD commentaries are a bore to sit through–and this one does have its over technical moments (especially if you have young children who “have in” Bugs or Daffy), but the comments from the characters are very witty–including a jab that Bugs throws at Michael Jordan early in the presentation (concerning his brief baseball career) .

Rounding out the first disc is the theatrical trailer of the film (this is almost a MUST with me for any DVD) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Space Jam! Click Here

The Second Disc is a nice bonus and could have easily been packaged as a stand-alone item. It features a “Making of Situation Spot” and several Looney Tunes shorts (from the 1980’s and 1990’s), as well as the 1988 television special, “Bugs vs. Daffy: Battle of the Music Video Stars”. Speaking of music videos, the second disc also features “Flit Like an Eagle” and “Monstars Anthem”.

This is a large gift for any Looney Tunes fan. Folks who liked it as children in 1996 (when the film was released) should serene like it as teens. Children who have never seen it will also be pleased it. In short, it’s a keeper.

Yep, I’ve been waiting for this one, also. One of the best family movies I can remember, yet it is quite absorbing for adults as well as children. Very comic fable of what happens when the legendary Bigfoot creature collides into the lives of an average suburban family. The character interactions are quite touching as the family becomes emotionally attached to this “lovable monster” that doesn’t know his bear strength and keeps wrecking their house and deforming their car. The casting is safe, the tale is simple but well-executed, and the site build-up is well-paced, and the ending is satisfying, leaving you with a warm fuzzy feeling.

The Bigfoot creature is INCREDIBLY authentic-looking, and pulls off a remarkably wide range of facial expressions that succor lend to his believability, lovability, and humor. Frankly, I contemplate if the creature had not been so well executed, the movie would not be so immense. I hope there is a “making-of” featurette on this DVD that shows how they made this character (it’s a Special Edition, there’s gotta be!) .

I can look this film again and again. I mediate it truly is a classic. Movies like this are few and far between.

When our adult children were tiny they loved this film. Now we have an eight year feeble who is extremely physically handicapped but is mentally alert. He absolutely loves this film. When I enjoy it up to behold if he wants to examine it and he gets the biggest smile. It is a film that children never procure tired of and we adults worship it too. I had actually forgotten about this movie until I ran across it one day and I immediately ordered it. I am so blissful it finally came out on DVD.

When Mystery Inc. again solves another mystery, the gang splits up for reasons of their own. Velma (Linda Cardellini) is tired of not getting any credit for her brain-work, Fred (a blonde Freddie Prinze Jr.) arrogantly thinks himself better working alone, and Daphne (Sara Michelle Gellar) has had it with her ‘damsel-in-distress’ part. Only Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and Scooby Doo (voice by Neil Fanning) is left heart-broken. But a few years later, the whole gang is invited to Spooky Island to investigate the mysterious going-ons and the strange behavior of the students who visit there. Of course the Scooby Gang wants to solve the mystery without the help of the others but in the end, the discover that the only way they would ever solve the mystery is to work together. But it will not be easy as clue by clue, the gang discovers a sinister plot to rule the world!

*PLOT* “Scooby Doo” is certainly now one of my favorite movies of all time! The plot is all familiar with all people; a team breaks up only at the end to work together to save the world (or something like that). But that plot never seems to get old since “Scooby Doo” is incredibly fun to watch! The teen music is pretty cool to listen to, too!

*ACTING* The acting is just stunning to watch! Since I’ve seen many of the Scooby Doo cartoons, it was so much fun to see all the actors and actresses playing the cartoon characters to perfection! Probably I was most impressed with Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, his voice was exactly the same as in the cartoon and even his actions and expressions were perfect! But of course all the characters were terrific, even the computer dog Scooby.

*GRAPHICS AND ACTION* The computer graphics were stunning, from the spooky ghosts to the scary creatures, and we mustn’t forget the lovable Scooby! Plenty of action at the end, too. My favorite action scenes are, 1) Daphne showing her new martial arts skills and 2) Fred’s plahing around comes in handy as he handles a bunch of bad guys.

*HUMOR* But of course the best thing about the movie is the incredibly funny humor! None of the jokes are hard to catch while there is some slapstick humor. But of course the movie is rated PG because of some humor.

So, put it all together and we have a very entertaining movie! I just cannot wait for “Scooby Doo” to come out on DVD! And, if the rumors are correct, I’m looking forward to “Scooby Doo 2″!

The key to enjoying SCOOBY DOO is not to expect too much. The producers have billed the film as half hommage, half parody; in truth, it isn’t really close enough to the original cartoon to be called hommage and it really doesn’t go far enough to be called parody, and as usual Hollywood makes the mistake of trying to cover up the script’s inadequacies with big-budget production values and expensive but actually so-so special effects. All the same, the film does have its moments. The story finds Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy splitting up due to ego conflicts–and then being unexpectedly reunited when the owner of a teen resort called “Spooky Island” invites them in to find out why his guests arrive as normal teens and then depart as, well, ZOMBIES.

The script is fairly mundane, but it does have a few zingers, as when Velma says “Let’s get jinky with it!” And although the cast is a mixed bag, they work hard to bring it off. Freddie Prinze is wildly miscast as Fred and Sarah Michelle Gellar is not an ideal Daphne, but they play with tremendous energy; Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini, however, are so dead on target with their performances that they create an amazing sense of deja vu. As for Scooby Doo, he is (of course) a computerized animation. And so are most of the monsters the gang encounters on Spooky Island. Although it works reasonably well, it isn’t anything to write home about.

I would recommend that parents preview the film before unleashing it upon their kids; some younger children may be unnerved by the monsters. The DVD comes with a number of extras that include some cut scenes–and they offer an interesting contrast with the film, for they are very satirical. Seeing them left me with the feeling that the film would have been much more entertaining if those scenes had been left in and the whole thing had been done with the same bite. As it is–SCOOBY DOO is neither a great film nor a memorable film. But we’re all occasionally in the mood for some mindless fluff, and it fills that niche very well indeed.

Samurai Champloo has become one of the greatest anime series ever with this final volume. It ranks well beside Cowboy Bebop, Watanabe’s other masterpiece of anime, and in many ways surpasses it. Watanabe’s series, though based in fuedal Japan, does not limit itself to those restrictions, instead taking a surrealistic belief of history, which allows for both minor and spacious discrepancies, and the larger the lie, the funnier the episode. Along with the comedy, the myth centers around substantial action and even greater music.

But in this volume, drama dominates. All of the characters meet the conclusion of their hold personal stories, while wrapping up their tale as a group. Jin faces a man directly linked to his past as a swordsman; Mugen faces a family crooked on revenge for Mugen’s past life as a pirate; and Fuu finally meets the Sunflower Samurai. Though you may contemplate I cross it, honest search for and sight, for none of these endings destroy exactly as you would examine.

Then, after all three of these linked episodes are finished, you are treated to a Reggae-style rap sung partly in English but mostly in Japanese. To me, this was the perfect ending theme to a series that relied heavily on its music.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Samurai Champloo, Volume 7! Click Here

So as not to spoil, I’ll carry out my review saying this. The destroy of Samurai Champloo is both intelligent and a bit gloomy. It’s a perfect conclusion to a perfect anime series, and sufficiently answers all the questions left slack in the previous volumes. If you have any anime sense, then you’ve already seen this anime and like it. If you don’t, then hasten and score this so that you can say you were one of the first to sight one of the best. This anime was definitely worth me collecting every separate volume, and I’d recommend the same for anyone else out there. Lawful now, I’m hoping Watanabe takes the same direction he did with Cowboy Bebop and makes the Samurai Champloo movie.

The finale of this gleaming note surpasses all expectations by having an enchanting nail-biting ending. Although there are only 3 episodes on this disc, the episodes acquire a long feature length ending. Our heroes finally near at their long-awaited destination only to get unwelcome people from their pasts waiting for them. The explain clearly answers all the questions it has raised during previous episodes and ties up loose ends. We accept out about Jin’s past and why he killed his Sensei. We also come by out the reason slack the motivations of previous assassins. Does Fuu gather her “samurai who smells of sunflowers? ” - well that would be telling. However, be prepared for an emotional ending as it is never obvious who will survive as Jin and Mugen finally meet their match. A enormous ending to a substantial series.

Unfortunately there is at this time no second season - only the 26 episodes already released. The mention of a second series is due to the recede from Fuji TV to Broadcast Satellite Fuji in Japan. The proceed caused a three month close gap in the airing of the programme, so the official designation of the First Season are episodes 1 to 17 and of the Second Season 18-26. This can be seen by the preview advertisement contained in the extras in the DVD Volume 5 for “Season Two.” However, I am quiet praying that another second series will be made!

A textbook example of the giallo, Lamberto Bava’s A Blade in the Dark is an obvious homage to Dario Agento, the Italian director who (along with Bava’s father Mario) served as his filmmaking mentor. Bava worked as assistant director on Argento’s Tenebre, shot the year before; that film’s influence is readily apparent. A major plot element is lifted from Argento’s Deep Red (1975) as well - Blade’s story also revolves around a composer who finds himself embroiled in a bizarre series of homicides. But Argento was working with much bigger budgets, longer production schedules, and better stories. Unfortunately, A Blade in the Dark can’t begin to compare to its inspirational sources.
Originally envisioned as a limited, episodic series for Italian TV, it was shot with a European theatrical release also in mind. The spare scenario (penned by prolific exploitation scribe Dardano Sarchetti) establishes only the most bare-boned of plots. Bruno (Andrea Occhipinti), a young composer, rents a large, rambling villa in which to work on his latest project, the score for a horror film being directed by his friend Sandra (Anny Papa). To the detriment of Bruno’s solitude the house comes complete with a suspicious-acting caretaker (are there any other types in Italian horror?) and some unexpected visitors - Katia (Valeria Cavalli) and Angela (Fabiola Toledo), two attractive women, acquaintances of the former tenant, who live nearby. When the women mysteriously disappear shortly after he meets them, Bruno begins to suspect they’ve been murdered on the premises… He can’t find any bodies, but clues abound. (Knife-holes and bloodstains would certainly qualify in that regard!) Someone definitely entered the villa uninvited and destroyed his latest demo tape, that much is sure. Stupidly, Bruno never once picks up the phone to dial the police.
If our dimwitted hero did the smart thing, however, there’d be no movie. More people die horrible deaths. Meanwhile Bruno wanders about the house and its grounds, poking around and peering into the dark. There are a lot of such scenes in the flick, which will severely test the patience of even the most avid giallo fan. (Rapido, Lamberto!) Obviously this was done to pad out the running time; too many of these sequences are obvious red herrings, devoid of any suspense, or just plain pointless.
Bava does pile on the shocks, though, in the film’s two main murder sequences. The stalking/slaying of Katia owes a lot to Tenebre in look and style (particularly the murder of the hotelier’s daughter in that film), but Bava ends
the set-piece with an original motif - the victim is trapped behind a sheet of chickenwire through which the killer slowly slashes her to death with a box-cutter - that’s guaranteed to get your flesh crawling. The death of Angela, when she’s attacked in the villa’s bathroom, is a real doozy: a brutal, nihilistic bit of filmmaking that some could easily interpret as an exercise in misogynistic sadism. (Here Bava does for hair-washing in the sink what Hitchcock’s Psycho did to taking a shower…) But amidst the unrepentant brutality Bava injects an occasional touch of sardonic humor, most notably when Sandra the horror director is strangled with a spool of her own film - murdered with her own movie.
Aside from the visceral thrills and chills generated by these murder scenes the film is pretty much a misfire. The characters are all uninvolving ciphers. It’s not much of a mystery, either; most of the red herrings offered up by the plot are plainly obvious for what they are. As mentioned, an inordinate amount of time is spent following Bruno as he wanders about the villa, checking this room and that - scenes devoid of dialog but accompanied by repetitious theme music that quickly becomes annoying. In one way the dearth of dialog is a good thing… The English dubbing job is poor, featuring ludicrous translations (”You’re a female!”;”I am not a female child!” etc.) that might be funny in a Godzilla movie, but not one about a sadistic serial killer. At times it seems evident that the translators weren’t even looking at a copy of the script - how else can one explain the scene in which Bruno chides Katia over her fear of a spider, telling her with a straight face that the bug isn’t even a spider, but a cockroach… at the very moment we’re shown a close-up shot of (yep) a SPIDER. Huh???
A Blade in the Dark has fans, no doubt appreciative of its effective, wince-inducing set-pieces. We love gialli, too - just not this one. We’d much rather watch Bava’s supernatural splatterfest Demons (1985) for the umpteenth time than sit through this one again.

“Just a case of being a bit overwrought.”
Sandra sums up the movie

Anchor Bay does a fine job with A Blade in the Dark considering it’s a fairly obscure title here in America. The transfer is letterboxed and anamorphically enhanced for 16×9 TVs; as the film was originally shot in 16mm the picture is understandably on the grainy side. The Dolby mono audio track is serviceably clear. In addition to the theatrical trailer, a short (10 min.), interesting video interview with director Bava and screenwriter Sarchetti is included. (This is in Italian, with easily readable English subtitles. Do not watch this before viewing the film itself. It’s chock full of spoilers, including the murderer’s identity.)

A composer is hired to score a slasher film and is sent to an old dark house for inspiration. Strange things begin to occur and bodies start to pile up..only to disappear. This is one of the better giallo films of its time and its miles ahead of the typical 80’s slashers that were coming out of the US. After working under his famed father Mario, as well as Dario Argento among others, Bava displays great atmosphere in this film as well as some shocking violence. Another reason to own this film on DVD is that AnchorBay is releasing this in its longest, most complete cut (longer than the EC import laser). On a side note, look for director Michele Soavi (Cemetery Man) in a small but interesting role.

Where the irascible movie “X” failed, the series “X: TV” so far succeeds. While both are based off CLAMP’s unfinished manga work “X” (also known as “X/1999″), the movie failed to lift any of the characters’ personalities or the story’s current depth and in the slay was nothing more than a mindless action movie. The series, on the other hand, manages to flesh out the many characters of this big record while at the same time crafting the yarn at a very reasonable skedaddle. “X: TV [ONE]” showed us the show’s untapped potential, and now “X: TV [TWO]” heads further in the legal direction with the next three episodes.

By now, our hero/anti-hero Kamui knows he is share of something going on in Tokyo, but he doesn’t fully understand it or, for that matter, really care about it. He manages to begin up a small more to his dilapidated childhood friends, Fuma and Kotori, but he peaceful feels the bitterness of a current tragedy in his life. Meanwhile, the Dragons of Heaven are beginning to secure, as are the Dragons of Earth, and confrontation between the two forces is unavoidable. And when Kamui’s fate and the choice he must create is finally revealed to him, tension begins to mount as to whether he will resolve upon one choice…or produce none at all.

The sage is fleshed out wonderfully. With seven episodes, the series has already surpassed the movie in every intention. Characters that were once throwaway now have personalities for the viewer to care about, and the spot moves along coherently instead of disjointedly. If there is to be one complaint, however, it has to be the frequent exhaust of flashbacks. Now, flashbacks are a substantial plan to give characters some backstory, but when they are obsolete too often it can procure quite boring. However, the overall execution is enough to overlook this minor gripe.

Buy,Download, Or Stream X - Two! Click Here

Visually, the series is breathtaking. Very few anime series can compare to the visual scope of “X: TV”. Hair that flows like wind, eyes that observe inexplicably deep…it’s very easy to view that a lot of danger was build into this series. Anime fans wanting some serious eye-candy need not peruse further than here.

Sound wise, the soundtrack continues to price. And the dub level-headed manages to distinguish itself as one of the better dubs on the market. It’s not moment-defining, but it certainly isn’t mediocre. If I had to compare it to another dub, I’d say it’s roughly on par with Pioneer’s enjoy “Serial Experiments Lain” dub. Subtitle fans will net the Japanese track here all accurate, but dubbies need not distress with this series.

As for the extras, there’s a very estimable interview with the series’ director, who explains what he was attempting to do with the series. He himself admits that the movie didn’t do justice to CLAMP’s work, and that the series is his acknowledge to fixing that jam. A very solid extra that “X” fans will not want to pass up.

Buy,Download, Or Stream X - Two! Click Here

Overal, “X: TV” is serene enthralling quite slowly, but thankfully it’s heading in the honest direction. While characterization should remain a focal point of the series, the action should score more intense as the Day of Judgement gets closer and closer. This series is certainly not for everyone, but CLAMP fans as well as fans of solid drama state in an apocolyptic-looming atmosphere should definately give “X: TV” a chance.

This series is nothing like the “X” Movie to me (which was comely to behold but confusing, convoluted, and wasn’t as delectable) . In a world of imported/commericialized and “jaded” japansese animation, I felt compelled to write a review on this series because it is absolutely a GEM. The record and space consume up more as the first few episodes play out… this is not a mindless action packed anime but a very well idea out production, radiant character earn, and fairly admirable emotional depth. It brought assist my fond memories of enjoying excellent anime like Escaflowne and Rurouni Kenshin from my past. Bravo! If anyone rates this at less than 4 stars, they either haven’t watched it or are mindless naysayers. 5 stars from me, it rescued my vision for what profitable anime should be at its core.

“You Only Live Twice” (1964) was published the year of Ian Fleming’s death, and, as with its predecessor, the top-notch “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” it is suffused with doom and death. It is unlike any of the other Bond books, with a pervasive gloominess that was as powerful the result of Fleming’s hasty declining health and unhappiness with the world around him as it was the result of Bond’s clinical depression after the tragedy that finished the last book.

Bond, recovering from the death of his wife, is falling to pieces. Taking the advice of a friend, M sends him on a critical mission to Japan, which he hopes will restore Bond’s spirits. What seems at first to be a rather placid visit soons turns unsafe as Bond agrees to derive secrets about the Russians in exchange for carrying out a glowing mission for the Japanese government. What he encounters is the culmination of the previous two Bond novels, and the last half of the current is virtually unputdownable.

This is the best writing of Fleming’s career, and his descriptions of Bond’s disintegration are surprisingly bewitching. The final hundred pages or so are horrifying and gripping; never before had Fleming demonstrated such mastery of his craft or technical skill at setting up a denouement. The tension becomes almost unbearable.

Buy,Download, Or Stream You Only Live Twice! Click Here

“You Only Live Twice” is not an uplifting book, but it is a well-known book in the Bond series, and great better than its successor, the pale and posthumously published “Man With the Golden Gun.” Those expecting slam-bang action will have to wait until the middle and final chapters, but the rewards are worth the patience. This is a attractive current, but I wouldn’t originate here if I were fair discovering Fleming’s Bond novels.

Taking site nine months after the tragic ending of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, You Only Live Twice was the last of Ian Fleming’s truly completed Bond books. (The Man With The Golden Gun, released after Fleming’s untimely death, is considered by many to be only a first draft.) It also served as the conclusion to the trilogy, beginning in Thunderball and continuing through OHMSS, that detailed James Bond’s yarn battle against Ernest Stavro Blofeld, founder of SPECTRE and essentially the anti-Bond. (Blofeld, we are reminded, refrains from almost all excessive behavior — even being described as a virgin in Thunderball though he later somehow contracted syphillis in the later books. Of course, while he doesn’t smoke or drink, he does seem to consume a lot of time thinking up ways to blow up the world.) While Fleming’s prose is better than ever in this unusual (showing his uncanny ability to mix sophisticated urbanity with hardboiled cynicism), its tranquil somewhat of a disappointing waste to the trilogy.

The position does open out quite promisingly. Nine months following the death of his wife, James Bond has sunk into an alcoholic wave of depression. M, rather icy hearted in this book after being humanized in OHMSS, comes cessation to terminating his service but instead, gives Bond a mission designed to respark his worship of espionage. Bond is sent to Japan to try to convince the head of the Japanese secret service — Tiger Tanaka — to ally himself with the English. These sections of the book are very strong. Bond’s mission is believable, the area (which is quite cynical while detailing how even allies like America and England are actually rivals when it comes to espionage) is compelling, and Tiger Tanaka is one of Fleming’s strongest connections. The scenes in which Bond learns about Japanese culture (while containing the well-meaning condascension that of which Fleming — like most writers of that era regardless of genre or nationality — was often guilty) are well-written and actually quite though-provoking. Quite behind in the book, Tanaka recruits Bond to investigate the Suicide Gardens of the mysterious Dr. Shatterhand (again, a very promising premise — Shatterhand basically has constructed a garden of poisonous plants designed to abet visitors to commit suicide) . This investigation leads to Bond’s final battle with Blofeld and it is here that the book, unfortunately, disappoints. Blofeld feels like a tacked-on addition and, unlike the previous books, his spot makes absolutely no sense. (Fleming even admits this when Bond concludes that Blofeld’s gone insane — however, his intention is so ludicrous that it actually detracts from his station as a trustworthy antagonist to Bond.) Whereas the previous books made Blofeld as spicy a character as Bond, in this book both of them feel a runt bit bland and as a result, their final battle doesn’t carry the emotional wallop one might have hoped for.

However, in Fleming’s defense, it should be celebrated that he was quite ill when he wrote this book and it is a testament to his often maligned talents that, even while ailing, he tranquil managed to invent a book that — while uneven as a whole — collected contained some fantastically strong early scenes and a character as sparkling as Tiger Tanaka. No, this book is not perfect or even one of the best Bond novels but it will mild be enoyed by fans of the current Fleming novels.

“Then what do you want? ”

“I want…, what they want. And every other guy that came over here & gave everything he had & spilled his guts, wants. For our country to savor us, as great as we worship it. That is what I want.”

- Rambo speaks, to his Colonel, as the whine of every American Venerable, (past, indicate, & future) & reminds Americans & the world over that freedom has a ticket thats worth fighting for, but, sometimes the simple personal rewards are elusive in “Rambo: First Blood Fragment II”

Thanks to the great hide & video success of “First Blood”, Rambo lives on this second installment, thats objective as marvelous as the previous film, but, tends to come by quite cartoonish towards the films waste.

Serving a five year plus jail sentence for the trashing of the town in “First Blood”, “Rambo” opens with the stale Green Beret hammering rocks in the local prison. That doesn’t last long as Colonel Sam Trautman, Rambo’s aged CO in the military, pays him a visit & offering him a sweet deal.

Satelite recon had picked up some unexpected movement in the P.O.W. camp that Rambo escaped from in ‘71. The camp is supposed to be abandoned, but, may collected be holding some of Rambo’s stale P.O.W.’s. Rambo’s mission is to sneak into the camp and occupy pictures & document actions of the camp’s activities and portray wait on to unfavorable. Trautman & American Forces would step in and invade the camp reclaiming & bringing home the P.O.W.’s. This would also lead to Rambo being reinstated in the special forces and, if the mission is a success, a Presidential Pardon on his prison portray, with Rambo walking away a free man.

Rambo reluctantly accepts the challenge, but, upon sneaking into the camp he does indeed come by many American Troops composed being held hostage beaten, malnutritioned, and one breath away from death. Rambo screws his Kodak moment, taking matters into his occupy hands. If you’ve watched “First Blood” you know what happens next.

Filmed entirely in Mexico, “Rambo” is a different film than the first, but retains and expands the violence quotient. Stallone exchanged working in weather that was ten to fifteen below zero & wading in water thats 39 degrees farenheit (remember the scene in “First Blood” where the National Guard is out looking for Rambo who was all along hiding amongst the rocks of the river? Yeah, that water was 39 degrees farenheit. Thats frosty ass water to be hiding in) . Instead, for “Rambo”, Sly worked in weather that reached 110 degrees and, in one scene where Rambo is captured by the Viet Cong, is dipped, from the neck down, in pig slop complete with steady live leeches (the Russian General uses Rambo’s knife to purchase one off his chest. Spoiled) .

The helicopter battle at the extinguish of the film was attractive unsafe. The helicopters flew so crude, that in one swiftly shot of the Russian copter flying over one of the huts, the copter takes the roof off! Director George P. Cosmatos left the scene in to reveal the wretchedness & concern of the battle.

Stallone’s daily schedule was getting up and working out for two to three hours in the early morning, a ten to twelve hour shooting day, & a two to three hour workout at night. All told, Stallone’s average work week with the workouts included was approx. 80 to 90 hours a week. Its also said that Stallone was at his leanest, practically resculpturing his body for this movie, as well as, for “Rocky IV”.

“Rambo: First Blood Portion II” was released for the Memorial Day weekend of 1985, and proceeded to punch a hole in American pop-culture. Everything from toys, bubble gum cards, & a cartoon series were produced to cash in on the success of the film.

As for the S.E. DVD, this is definitely the definitive edition of the film (the fresh Ultimate Edition is a dissapointment) . Features include a retrospective of the film from Cosmatos, Stallone, Richard Crenna & others, to trailers, an audio commentary from the director, DTS audio soundtrack with Dolby Digital & surround. Rambo is not expendable and neither is this DVD.

I fricking care for to be an American and this movie demonstrates why. Guns, bombs, rocket laden helicopters, a hot Asian chick, and MORE GUNS!!!!!! What else do you need in this life? I almost wet myself when I saw this movie at the theater aid in the 80s. Rambo is the unique archetype of MAN, the recent mythological/pedagogical draw meant to aid us realize our human potential. Near on, let’s be just, we’ve all been screwed by THE MAN. We’ve all been sent on errands meant to fail impartial to invent our superiors examine competent. We’ve all been abandoned under stutter philosophize. “And these are the people you protect…..with your distress.” We’re unprejudiced grocery clerks sent to gain the bill (sorry, Apocalypse Now reference) . But do you contemplate I’d care if I was left alone on a mountain top surrounded by a division of North Vietnamese armed with AK-47s all after my arse. Not on your life Baby!!! At least, not since I saw this flick. I know I’d level-headed be able to buy care of business if I had a actual sidearm, was sprayed with mildew, and had an emaciated countryman who’d been incarcerated into a stupor as a sidekick. “You may wail. There is no shame.” No my friend. YOU!!! may sob, you Soviet tool, when Rambo rips you limb from limb in a fit of homicidal vengeance. Don’t bother with that fretful feely pap like Platoon, or Saving Private Ryan, or Schindler’s list. Any Sincere man knows that this is what war’s really about. I can’t recommend this movie enough. It will absolutely satisfy any lust you may have for ultraviolence. God Bless.

Disturbing film delivers shocks and thrills. Goodbye Uncle Tom could not be made today. The racism on explain is horrifying to say the least. Seeing church leaders expend the bible to define - no claim slave ownership as a accurate is very creepy. The portrayal of the period is solid and you reach away feeling that an just portrayal is given of what it was like in that time. Details of the slave auctions, casual rape and brutality and living conditions should turn the stomache of even the most ardent racist.

I noticed there is only one review for this incredible film. The above reviewer seems to have missed the point of this well-done and repulsive film.

Slavery was a wicked and putrid chapter in American History.

Would it not form sense that the portrayal of slavery would be disgusting and irascible?

Franco Prosperi and Gualtiero Jacopetti of ‘Mondo Cane’ spared no expense in creating this anecdote film.

Contrary to the previous reviewer, I assume this improbable movie should be mandatory viewing for all high school seniors in this Country (especially in the South) .

After watching this, you will want to go out on your front lawn and burn a rebel flag.

This movie is attractive unsuitable and monstrous. The only other film I have seen that is anywhere reach as ill is ‘Salo’.

I reccomend this movie to anyone living in the United States.

It will really create you judge.
